We at the Center for Progressive Reform cannot sit idly by and watch the Trump administration’s relentless attacks on the transgender community here in the United States and around the world. Like many of you, we’ve been horrified and outraged by this administration’s steady stream of executive orders and other actions that seek to not only vilify but erase the very existence and dignity of transgender people. We can only imagine the fear, agony, and very real danger these actions are inflicting — and are designed to inflict — on these individuals.
So, let’s be clear: The Center’s staff condemns the Trump administration’s attacks on the transgender community — especially trans children — in the harshest terms possible. These attacks are designed to scapegoat and marginalize people in service of a narrative and public policies of dominance, oppression, and control. As such, these attacks have no place in this country, and they are antithetical to the values that we at the Center seek to espouse and advance as part of our mission to build a democracy in which all are invited to “create a responsive government, a healthy environment, and a just society.”
To the transgender community: We pledge our unflagging support during these dark times. You will always be welcome as you are with us.
