On November 6, Senior Policy Analyst Catalina Gonzalez submitted comments to Region 6 of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. The comments raised concerns about the risks to the public health and safety of residents in Ector, Texas, associated with three draft Class VI underground carbon dioxide injection well permits the EPA is reviewing. Gonzalez urged the agency to deny these permits and consider additional methodologies to evaluate environmental and safety impacts and investigate previous leaks and construction violations at other carbon dioxide injection and underground storage wells.
