Our October 17 webinar, “Environmental Justice in State and Local Climate Planning,” provided insights for the policymakers and advocates engaging in comprehensive climate planning across the country, many funded by the U.S. EPA’s Climate Pollution Reduction Grant Program.
We started the webinar with a brief presentation on our new report, Environmental Justice in State Climate Planning: Learning from California. Drawing from our in-depth analysis of California’s multi-year public process to craft its 2022 Scoping Plan for Achieving Carbon Neutrality, we highlighted our recommendations on how best to integrate environmental justice principles into ongoing state and local planning efforts.
Following the report presentation, guests who participated in California’s planning process and a representative from EPA discussed how California’s experience can improve future climate planning efforts in the state and elsewhere, particularly when it comes to meaningfully prioritizing frontline communities.
